Are you ready to get your home whipped into shape this year? Last week we completed the first step which was going through your family room and deciding what parts were bugging you most. We chose the family room because that is where most families spend the a lot of time and it’s the room that guests usually see when visiting. Now that you have your list of things that need decluttered or deep cleaned, I want you to rank your list. What is the easiest thing to clean? Rank this as your #1. Then, look over your list. #2 would be the item that will take the next longest and so on. Your hardest task should have the highest number beside it.
Now this part is important! Each day this week, you are going to spend 15 minutes on your tasks. Start with #1. If you finish with your first task and still have time on the clock, begin working on your second task. If your timer goes off and you are in the middle of a task, it’s fine. Leave it as it is and pick up where you left off tomorrow.
Why 15 minutes? Well, most of the time the reason your house has gotten out of control is because 1. You hate cleaning and/or organizing. 2. You don’t have time to clean. Even if you hate cleaning you can do it for 15 minutes at a time! Having a plan for what to clean and knowing that you only have to focus on the task for 15 minutes each day will help you stay motivated to work on getting your space looking the way you want it. Also, if you are super busy (as we all are) you can squeeze in 15 minutes to do this! Even if it needs to be first thing in the morning or later at night after the kids go to bed, you can find 15 minutes.
Just think! At the end of a week, you will have worked on your family room for a total of 1 hour 45 minutes. You will be amazed at how much you are able to accomplish in this amount of time! Need cleaning supplies? I tried Mrs. Meyer’s disinfectant spray for the first time last week. It is amazing! If you want your house to smell fresh and clean, be sure and try it out.
