Over the past couple of days we have received around 10 inches of snow. Since I am from Florida, when it snows, I don’t drive anywhere. My 3 kids have basically been inside the house due to snow days all week. They are coming up with creative ways to pass the time and my middle son decided that we should make our 17 year old cat, Frankie, a bed out of an old sweater. Here are the directions in case you have any old sweaters lying around and a cat in need of a comfy bed 😉 He loves it!
We started off with a sweater that I had in my closet that has not seen the light of day in awhile.
Our first step was to sew the neck of the sweater closed. I don’t own a sewing machine so this was done with a needle and thread from a sewing kit I bought for $1 to take on our trip to Costa Rica. We definitely used what we had for this project!
Our next step was to pin the top of the sweater so that we could put stuffing in the arms and around the top in a mostly even way. We didn’t have straight pins so we used safety pins from my sewing kit extraordinaire.
Since this was a spur of the moment project and I was not about to risk life and limb to go to Michael’s on the icy roads, we found an old pillow that we could use the stuffing out of. Thank you for your sacrifice old pillow!
Here is where we stuffed the arms…
…and the half finished product.
We wanted the middle to be comfy so we put some stuffing in there.
Then, we sewed the bottom of the sweater so that no stuffing would fall out.
Here is the finished product including our cat enjoying his new bed!
Not too bad for our first try at making a cat bed and needing to make do with what we had to make it!
